For newcomers the best board is a Minimalibu. With this board it is very easy to catch the waves. When you stand it is very stable and not so hard to handle like a longboard.

When you're able to surf along the wall of the wave with the minimalibu you can switch to an Evolution.

Before buying a shortboard you need to know how to manage your Evolution safely in different types of waves. Don't change too quickly to a shortboard because it's pretty light, because it stops by itself. There are shortboards with very different properties. Before you buy a shortboard is advisable to be well informed. You'll find some free advice in our free personal advice service ...

A surf style is practiced with a longboard that allows to catch the waves very early and stay in them when they no longer have nearly any wall. However, it is not a board suitable for beginners.

The wetsuit protects you from the cold. The thicker the wetsuit - the more sheltered you are. In the north of Spain you can surf from May to October with a suit of 3 / 2 mm. If you want to surf all year you need at least a thickness of 4 / 3 mm for the winter and 2 mm Shorty for summer.

In addition you need a leash (it's called the rope fixing the board at the ankle) and surf wax which prevents slipping of the board.

A good surf school, as www.surfnsoul.com, always supply the complete equipment available to its students, and included in the class price.
