Natural Park of Oyambre

The surf school is based in Cantabria, Spain, on the northern Coastline about 60 km to the west of Santander. The surf lessons take place on the beaches of the Natural Park of Oyambre. Beautiful beaches with fantastic waves fill the hearts of the surfers with enthusiasm. Here you can sit at the line up, waiting for your next wave, enjoying the views of the National Reserve Park Picos de Europa at proximity of 30 km. Some of the last remaining European wolves and bears live in these wild romantic mountains elevated up to 2650 m. There are prepared snow pistes with ski-lifts in the surrounding mountains from November through to March. Through the rest of the year you can enjoy walking, climbing, mountain biking, riding, archery, rafting, hydro-speed and kayaking.

Along the coast, your are invited by the beautiful medieval villages like Comillas and Santillana del Mar to walk through times of yesteryear. There are lovely seafood, fish and the famous Rioja Wine to enjoy or local and traditional parties throughout the Spanish night. A must see are the ancient caves of Altamira next to Santillana del Mar, Monte Castillo in Puente Viesgo and Pindal in Unquera with their amazing stone-age paintings and breathtaking rock formations.

Beginner, advanced or crack, there is a perfect wave for everyone to find here. In contrast to most other good surfing spots in Europe, the beaches are situated within the natural park of Oyambre with wide open uncrowded spaces, so relaxed surfing here is still possible even in high season.

Whenever the waves are too big or the wind blows in the wrong direction, it is not necessary to look far for another surf spot to enjoy the surf, which normally happens in many places. Due to the varying shape of the coastline there is almost always a close alternative choice with good waves.

In the nearby fishing village of San Vicente de la Barquera, you'll find everything you need to enjoy a pleasant holiday. There are markets with local products, supermarkets, shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs, ATM’s, hotels, campsites, a post office - and of course fresh fish.

Comillas, Spanish high dignitary style holiday villas from the second half of the nineteenth century is only 7 km from the surf school and is truly beautiful. The old town with typical mountain style houses and impressive examples of avant-garde architecture, like the famous Capricho of Gaudí ... And at night the nightlife meets in little romantic streets to party ...
